A lot of that .* stuff that you've got in there will lead to unneccessary backtracking and therefore, quite a bit of inefficiency. Try to reduce it, maybe something more along the lines of:
<(?<tag>\b\w+\b)[^>]*>(?<text>.*?)</\k<tag>>
